The USPTO can cancel a trademark if it's not used or upon request. Between the fifth and sixth years after registration, the owner must submit maintenance documents and fees. If they fail to do so, the trademark is considered abandoned and will be automatically canceled by the USPTO. If someone believes a trademark's use harms them, they can file a Petition to Cancel. If this petition is not contested, the trademark will be canceled.
