What types of trademarks cannot be registered in South Korea?

The following types of marks cannot be registered under South Korean trademark law:

• Generic terms or marks


• Marks that lack distinctiveness


• Last names


• Names of geographic locations


• Names, flags, or symbols of international organizations, states, regions, and nations. Note: Registration is possible if the international organization is well-known.
