What types of trademarks cannot be registered in the Philippines?

Applicants cannot register the following types of marks:

• Marks that go against moral standards or public order


• Common or generic terms


• Marks lacking distinctiveness


• Last names


• Names of places


• Marks that cannot be visually represented, like those based on taste, smell, or sound


• Marks containing flags, symbols, or names of international organizations, countries, states, or regions
